On March 21st we hosted a gathering of Parks Board Field House residents. Evolving from a pilot project in 2011, the Vancouver Park Board artist studio residencies program now includes over 50 artists (solo or part of collectives) that work out of field houses, park facilities, marinas, and community centres. The program provides free work-only studios for artists in exchange for community arts-based engagement. Check them all out here. Each Field House also has a blog like this one, so you can keep up to date on what they’re doing.
Current Burrard Marina Field House residents Keg de Souza and Harrell Fletcher each gave short presentations sharing their community based projects. It was great to meet the new residents, eat come yummy food and discuss the diverse work of artists in the public realm.
